Grand Targhee Resort Opens with Great Snow
(November
26, Driggs, ID) The
Season opened
with a bang on Wednesday, November 21. Skiers and snowboarders ripped
thru powder/packed powder conditions over most of the mountain.
Shoshone and Dreamcatcher lifts were operating, with the southbound
terrain of Fred's Mountain temporarily closed. Trick Town had a handful
of rails and boxes set up as well, allowing jibbers to get an early
start on perfecting their tricks.
On Thursday, the 22, the resort opened up the southbound terrain and
visitors were treated to more
somewhat fresh snow (note: even though the southbound terrain was
closed on Wednesday, a
lot of folks ducked the rope and gobbled up most of the untracked pow).
On Saturday, the Team started training with the usual back to
basics drills with more of the same on Sunday. All the kids looked
great on the
snow, and it was It's amazing to see how much improvement there was,
from last year, right off the bat.
Several snowboard and freestyle team members jumped right into the
competition season by entering the Habitat Rail
Jam. Turnout was low — about 25 competitors – but decent for this
first-time event. The team nabbed several top spots on the
first day of this six-week series. Check out the Team's competition
Schedule for more events.
19th Annual Tugboat Memorial Ski Swap Kicks Butt...Again
(November 12, Driggs, ID) The
19th Annual Tugboat Memorial Ski Swap was a huge success, with numbers
showing a 32% growth over last year.
The event was once again held at the Driggs Community Center, and
Peaked Sports, Habitat, and Victor Outdoor Seconds joined the team to
provide tons of great new and used gear for locals to snap up. Teton
Valley residents have
long been accustomed to participating in the swap every year, but
Jacksonites are also
starting to make the GTST Ski Swap an annual trek. A huge selection and
great bargains were there for the taking all through Saturday evening
when the Swap finally closed its doors.
Thanks to all the volunteers who made this Swap so great: Amy Dery,
Kayla Gadberry, Becky & Burt Wood, Juliet Cullins, Jim Schulz,
Scott Kauf, Jackie Riley to name a few. A special thanks to Travis and
Amy Davis for picking up racks from Grand Targhee Resort, and a special
thanks to Grand Targhee Resort for loaning us the racks. Finally,
thanks to Mayor Lou Christiansen and the City of Driggs for letting us
mob the Community Center for two days.
